Cell and Developmental Biology: Research Topics

Plant Biology

The development and physiology of the plant kingdom

The Plant Biology labs at UCSD study the fundamental processes required for plant form, growth, and survival. Cutting edge techniques in molecular, cellular, genomic, biophysical and systems biology are employed to elucidate the gene networks, protein interactions, and metabolic and signaling pathways that form the basis of circadian rhythms, organ development, hormone synthesis and signaling, ion transport and metabolism, abiotic stress responses, algal biofuel metabolism, and plant defense to pathogens. CDB plant labs play a leading role in the San Diego Center for Molecular Agriculture and the Center for Circadian Biology.
