Neural Circuits

How groups of cells interact to accomplish units of perception and behavior.

Sensation, motor control, and all the way-stations in between are produced by the interactions among neurons that form interacting circuits. Understanding the functions of circuits requires knowing their intricate interconnections, whether they excite or inhibit one another, and the dynamics of the interconnections. The NB faculty uses cellular functional imaging, optogenetics, multi-unit recording, and electrophysiological techniques to tease apart the clockworks of neural circuits that underlie brain function.
