Neurobiology: Research Topics

Developmental Neurobiology

The mechanisms for functional identity and connections of neurons.

Everything that we know, feel, and do depends upon the proper function of our nervous system, and its proper functioning depends critically upon each neuron acquiring its proper structure and function, then making appropriate connections to other neurons. Many NB laboratories are involved, either entirely or in part, in understanding how cells become specialized to be neurons and how these neurons find their specific targets. The techniques used span the gamut from biochemistry through cell and molecular biology through systems neurobiology.
