Disposal and Decontamination
Hazardous waste can pose a substantial threat to human health and the environment when managed improperly. As a public research institution with deep-seated roots in natural resources, oceanography, and environmental science, we have an obligation to protect both our community and environment through strict waste disposal policies and guidelines.
Notice to Biology Laboratories
At the behest of campus EH&S, waste management policies have been updated to meet directives set by the 2018 "Certified Unified Program Agency" (CUPA) inspection to include several distinct waste processes and streams. Please refer to the waste management flowchart [PDF] for initial guidance and contact the Division Safety Office, safetyoffice@ucsd.edu, with any further questions or concerns.
