Meet our fourth cohort of Co-Op students of various majors whose yearlong positions at Catalent, Excellos and Thermo Fisher Scientific span areas including process engineering, quality control, informatics project management, and cell therapy, antibody and gel manufacturing.

    At Excellos, some of my tasks include writing documents, equipment management and qualification, and data analysis. I hope to gain new technical skills and experiences that will be valuable to a future career in the biotech industry. I enjoy reading, writing, and spending time with friends and family.

    I’m a third-year student and my role at Catalent involves reagent preparation, dissolutions, water content, and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) tasks for pharmaceutical products while adhering to current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) standards. I hope to utilize this experience to work in biotech and make a difference. I enjoy traveling, hiking and baseball.

    I’m a third-year student and at Catalent, my main responsibility involves assisting the process engineers with the research, development, and optimization of early-phase oral solid dosage formulations. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and going to the beach.

    At Thermo Fisher, my main responsibility involves document changes, controls, and validations. I'm passionate about the wide variety of applications in the life sciences industry, and my goal in the Co-Op Program is to learn more about the industry and establish skills that will be applicable in the future. I enjoy swimming with friends and traveling home to Taiwan to see family.

    At Thermo Fisher, I run quality control procedures for our site’s gels manufacturing department. I hope to master wet lab protocols concerning gel electrophoresis and staining procedures, as well as gain a better understanding of what it's like to work within a large corporate structure. My current career plan is to work as an in-house intellectual property lawyer for a biotech company, so I am passionate about obtaining relevant technical experience to more effectively comprehend the molecular mechanisms driving scientific innovation. Outside of work, I am a Resident Assistant for Eighth College and enjoy going to local flea markets with my friends.

    • Major: Molecular and Cell Biology major

    At Catalent, I assist in running assays to determine the potency and purity of drug products throughout several formulation stages. My role involves volumetric sample preparation, dissolution testing, solution preparation, and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) setup. In the future, I hope to work as a research scientist in the human health industry. Outside of work, I love trying new hobbies such as dancing, rock climbing, and surfing.

    I'm a third-year student who creates antibody products at Thermo Fisher for use in medical and biological research applications. Outside of my studies, I lead co-curricular clubs at UC San Diego that align with my philosophy and passion for boxing. I hold medical professionals in high regard and firmly believe in the power of the biotechnology industry to enhance the human condition.

    I am a fourth-year student who manufactures antibodies at Thermo Fisher that will be used in research applications. I am passionate about the biomedical industry and my goal for the Co-Op program is to expose myself to industry practices and standards. Outside of academics, I like to stay active through rock climbing and working out.
