Transfer Student Resources and Opportunities for Success

In order to assist transfer students with the transition to UC San Diego, the University along with the School of Biological Sciences has developed several resources and opportunities designed to addresses the specific needs of transfer students. The goal of these programs is to improve transfer students' academic success and their overall integration to campus and the division. We aspire to provide all students with the tools necessary to make a smooth transition from being a transfer student to becoming a thriving biology major at UC San Diego!

Transfer Credit Guidelines

Transfer students are encouraged to review the Transfer Credit Guidelines in order to better understand how coursework taken outside of UC San Diego will apply to their biology major.

Opportunities

Summer

Biology Student and Instructional Services conducts a New Transfer Student Information Session for all new biology transfer students. Students are invited to register and participate in this online information session. This is a very important information session to help with (almost) everything you need to know before fall quarter.

ROOTS is a four-week application-based workshop, that occurs prior to the start of fall quarter for incoming transfer students. Students build laboratory skills in a supportive setting while meeting other transfer students and networking with UCSD Biology faculty seeking student researchers.

Fall

First Year Experience, a unique course option, offered by the colleges.

Annual

Biological Sciences Student Association (BSSA) hosts mixers, workshops, and panels for transfer biology students. They also welcome transfers to apply to be part of their Mentor-Mentee Program.
