Thermo Fisher Scientific

Since the UC San Diego School of Biological Sciences Co-Op Program began in 2021, 13 students have launched impactful careers through paid year-long Co-Op experiences with our founding partner, Thermo Fisher Scientific, a global life sciences leader that provides the tools, technologies, and services that enable scientific discovery and advance healthcare.

Through roles spanning antibody manufacturing, drug discovery, quality control, informatics, software development, and operations, students have applied their scientific knowledge to real-world challenges while gaining the experience, mentorship, and industry perspective needed to thrive in the life sciences.

Thermo Fisher has become a powerful career pathway for Co-Op students, with 42% transitioning into full-time roles after graduation in positions including Scientist I, R&D AI/ML Engineer, Project Manager, and Procurement Specialist. Others have advanced their careers with leading biotechnology companies, including AGC Biologics, Bora Biologics, and Amgen, while 42% have gone on to graduate school at top institutions, including UC San Diego and Georgia Institute of Technology.

Additionally, 12% were selected for Thermo Fisher’s highly competitive Operations Leadership Development Program (OLDP), an accelerated two-year rotational program that develops future operations leaders through cross-functional experiences, leadership development, and mentorship.

While Co-Op roles are not available at Thermo Fisher for the 2026-2027 academic year, students are encouraged to apply to Thermo Fisher internships to gain valuable experience and take the next step in building their career.
