Fee Waiver Questions

Can I get a fee waiver? (Need-Based)

U.S. citizens, permanent residents and undocumented students may request a need-based fee waiver for the application fee within the application. Please note all fee waiver requests must be submitted at least one week prior to the application deadline. Your application must be fully submitted for your fee waiver to be processed. For more information regarding need-based fee waivers, please visit the Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs' (GEPA) page on Application Fee and Fee Waiver or email gradadmissions@ucsd.edu. Need-based fee waivers are managed by GEPA, not BioSci. For departmental fee waivers, please see the next question.

Can I get a fee waiver? (Departmental)

All applicants may request a departmental fee waiver via form for the application fee for this program's application. This form is the only way to request a fee waiver for international applicants for this program. Non-international applicants who do not qualify for a need-based fee waiver (addressed in the question above this one) may request a departmental fee waiver; applicants who receive a need-based fee waiver cannot and will not receive a departmental fee waiver. Each program at UC San Diego is able to offer a very limited number of departmental fee waivers. This program will be in touch by the day before the deadline about if you are chosen for a departmental fee waiver or not. If you are not chosen for a departmental fee waiver, if you want to submit an application, you will need to pay the application fee. Please note that if you pay the application fee that it is not refundable. If you are applying to other programs than BioSci or multiple programs, you will need to reach out to the other department(s) directly in order to request a departmental fee waiver for their program(s) (e.g. a BioSci departmental fee waiver cannot be used to submit an application to Biomedical Sciences (BMS), and vice versa).
